Sabotage at the Supermarket

I want to be thin and healthy. I do, I really do. And I try- I go to the gym, I take my vitamins, I try to stay on the whole grain train (except when it comes to pizza crust because let's be honest, if you're eating greasy yummy pizza does the carb count in the crust really make you feel better about it? That dripping you feel coming down your chin is grease, not soy milk so just eat the regular crust!)
Anyways, so today I did really good all day- I avoided the left over Halloween candy that seems to be everywhere at work, I brought healthy home made soup for lunch, and we had a dinner of lowfat turkey tacos planned and a gym trip scheduled. Miss Healthy right? But then, THEN, I had to stop at the store on the way home to get lettuce for the tacos, and on the way to the cash register I walked down the frozen section, and there it was- Apple Pie Ice Cream. It was like in the movies where the angels start to sing and the spotlight hits the ice cream, I swear I stopped dead in my tracks. Some GENIUS took apple pie ala mode and packaged it together. And it was on sale!!
Immediately the internal debate began- to get it or not to get it. I cursed Stop and Shop for putting it on sale and got frustrated at my husband for not getting lettuce when he was at the store earlier (and if anyone is wondering why I didn't blame myself for walking down the ice cream aisle in the first place let me just say that the ice cream aisle to me is like window shopping for some women, sometimes you just want to look)
I had finally made up my mind to just WALK AWAY and was mental reaching up to pat myself on the back when i saw two little words on the ice cream package: Limited Edition. I froze. Great, just great. Who knows if it will be here next week? What if I miss it? But do I really NEED ice cream? and on and on the debate raged.

I did make it out of the store, eventually. And as I sit here typing, ice cream laden spoon in hand I have to say : Well played Breyers, well played.

I'm backwards.....

So I have this GORGEOUS wedding dress that I love love love, and I'm in the midst of the fittings and all that good stuff. I went for a fitting last month and the dress fit like a dream, but my mom and I noted that I could stand to do some back work to tighten up the muscles so I look sleek and svelte for the big day. And like a good lil gym rat, I hit the gym hard over the last month-Upping my cardio and lifting really consistently. I even unintentionally lost some pounds and joked to my fiance that I would have to start eating more because I didn't want my dress to be too large on me.

Imagine my shock when I get to the dressplace on Saturday and Elyse can BARELY zip up the back of my dress. It fit, but it was so tight that I thought my ribs were going to explode. What happened?!

The tailor lady (who is really good by the way) had said she was going to smooth out the bodice, but even if she did that (and I don't know if she did) I didn't think it would take the dress in at all, since we had agreed last month that it fit perfectly. And she said she could take it back out now, but because the dress is so intricately beaded and embroidered, I'd rather not overwork it and risk hurting the quality of the fabric! But I didn't gain weight, so what gives!!??

I talked to my mom (who is an aerobics instructor and personal trainer) and she thinks that because I have such an easy time gaining muscle when I want to that all my working out has caused my chest and back muscles to "spread" making me wider and that's why the dress isn't fitting. her advice- stop working out my chest and back and hoe that the muscles eat themselves and shrink back down.

So now I need to rethink my whole gym plan, especially since today, Monday, is typically chest and back day. I just can't help but think how crazy this all is- who ever heard of a girl having good workout habits work against her and her wedding dress?!

It was brought to my attention recently that I have been neglecting my blog as of late. I wish I could say that it was because I had a fancy new lawyer job, but I don't. I am sitting with the PJ of Family though, and because of state budget cutbacks, the mood at work is grim, so I don't have much time to blog. However, to stop the whining of two biggest fans (and the only people who read this) here goes...

We are now less than 3 months from the wedding. I'm super excited for the actual wedding day and the honeymoon, but I feel like I have a million things to do between now and then! One thing I don't have to do anymore is get shoes for the wedding day, since I did that yesterday. And being the Phoebe that I am, I got sneakers. That's right folks. Big old fancy princess ball gown, tiara, lots of lace... and sneakers. But they are the cutest sneakers EVER! they look like mary janes and they have satin and sparkles and they are dance friendly and now I don't have to worry about tripping down the stairs and falling off the dock and into the water- we've all seen that youtube clip and it did not look fun!

Losing weight is another huge topic of discussion for the wedding. Everyone loses weight differently, and everyone's trying to lose weight right now so I feel like I'm drowning in discussions about it. I have a tendency to go a little overboard on the weightloss thing if I'm not careful, but the dressmaker can't recut my whole dress again since she already did it once, so I need to actually be careful to not lose too much weight, which is kind of a bummer. I have my last dress fitting this Saturday, so hopefully the dress fits well and I can just try to stay where I am until June, only with smaller, tighter arms.

ok, that's it for now. sorry for the boring post, I'll try to be back on my ranting, yelling at people, ready to crush the world kick for tomorrow.- Ciao.

Happy Friday

Nothing really new to report, but I haven't blogged in a while so I felt obligated. Let's see... I just finished book 3 from the Twilight Saga. I was rather disappointed in it because Bella acts really trampy. I won't say what she does in case you want to read it, but it was enough to have me throw the book down in disgust, stomp my foot and call a friend to complain since Kyle wasn't there to listen to my rantings (and let's face it he would have ignored me for our flat screen) but yes, as of this moment, I am really annoyed and I hope the 4th book redeems the series for me. I do, however, now want a silver bracelet with a heart charm and am shocked they haven't marketed that yet.
If he remembers, a friend is supposed to let me borrow the books (part of me wonders if it's because he's worried someone will see them in his apartment and make fun of him for having these books that make 15 year old girls swoon thus causing him to kinda look like a dirty old man). My plan is to read the last one, then reread the whole series from the beginning to see if I get more out of it. Gosh I'm such a nerd! And I need a real job!
I'm teaching hiphop tomorrow with my Mom for a charity fundraiser at the gym. Really excited because it's been far too long since I've danced, and we have great music to work with! Speaking of music, someone told me last night that my musical tastes remind them of midriff tops, juicy fruit and Pink tank tops. What does that say about me?

Question of the day:
What sums up your music style?

Latest Obsession

So I borrowed that tween vampire book Twilight from a coworker yesterday, and I could NOT put it down. The writing isn't even all that fantastic, the storyline is predicable- and yet, I was up until dawn to devour the whole thing in one sitting. I love the whole concept- Human in love with Vampire, Vampire wanting to both kill and eat human. Call me a 14 year old, but I'm hooked. Although if I ever wear one of those obnoxious "Edward" T-shirts the first person who sees me has my full consent to donk me on the head and rip the shirt off. There is what I like to call a "fanline". Merchandise with a person's full face on it when that person is not a two dimensional cartoon character is over that line. I need to get my paws on the rest of the books in the series (or as the author likes to call it, the saga), but someone who shall remain Anonymous failed to bring them to me at new years. maybe I'll just go home and read the first book again tonight!

Germ War Update

So there's good news and not so good news (but not BAD news, hence why I didn't just say good news/bad news)

Good News:
I used my fancy new health insurance and went to the doctor today. Sidebar- my new Doctor kicks ass- he's really smart and was great at treating me like an intelligent person and explaining things and if I ever got seriously sick I think he's actually try to help, so, score!

More good news is that I'm not contagious (awesome because I was worried about making my coworkers sick) that I'm feeling a lot better and I'll be able to go to work tomorrow and definitely go dress shopping this weekend.

Not so good but not bad news:
I have bronchitis( no surprise since I get it like twice a year) and I have to use an inhaler because I'm not getting enough air into my lungs. He said it has something to do with what's going on with my throat and nose, because I guess I'm not supposed to have shortness of breath at my age, but hopefully this will help. So now I'm that nerdy girl with an inhaler.

More good news:
Having insurance rocks when a $135 inhaler costs $6 beans. I cringe to think what a fiasco this would have been if I still didn't have insurance. In fact, that was the highlight of my day- when I realized that I didn't have to suffer and I could actually GO to the doctor instead of consulting WebMD and crossing my fingers.

Some potentially bad news:
Bronchitis can sometimes get worse before it gets better, but hopefully the inhaler will head it off. For the moment I feel pretty good though so here's hoping!

Actual Bad News:
I have to get blood work done so he can test me for allergies. And I don't like needles, so we'll see how long I can drag me feet on this one.

My germy weekend

I'm sick.
It all started yesterday morning when I woke up with my left tonsil feeling like it had little knives attached whenever I swallowed. I asked Kyle to get me the thermometer, which quickly escalated into a fight with him saying that I always think I'm sick and me saying that he's an insensitive baboon. (granted, I may run to WebMD a little too often..) But his attitude changed once I forced him to look at my throat and showed him my 100+ temperature. Unfortunately my victory has been somewhat hollow as I have spent this entirely gorgeous weekend doing nothing but rereading Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, and dozing through crappy movies on TV (so far I've seen American Pie 2, Arachnophobia, The DaVinci Code and one of the newer Star Wars). Kyle has been kind- getting me throat lozenges (I love that word- lozenge...just savor it while you say it, it's fun- Lozenge) and pretending not to mind that I've ruined his weekend. Hopefully this clears up soon as this week at work is set to be very busy and I need to be at full strength. But as for right now, well, things are coming out of my throat that put that girl in The Exorcist to shame.
